A massive box set of early Jerry Garcia performances will be available May 11th, titled Before The Dead.

A retrospective box set compiled of rare Jerry Garcia performances will be released on May 11 via Round Records titled “Before The Dead.” The title explains this gem of a box set perfectly, the material is music he performed before he co founded The Grateful Dead in 1965. The project is available for pre order in two different packages, a 4-CD set and a limited edition 5 L.P.
The music includes rare tracks from May 26, 1961 from Jerry and Robert Hunter recorded at Brigid Meier’s 16th birthday party in Menlo Park, California. The extended box set also includes Jerry as part of Sleepy Hollow Hog Stompers in San Carlos on June 11, 1962. Other performances include The Wildwood Boys at Top of The Tangent in Palo Alto from 1963 and The Hart Valley Drifters studio set from Stanford University. David Nelson, Norm Van Maastricht, and Sandy Rothman are among the musicians who appear on this historic box set. Author and longtime Jerry publicist  Dennis Mcnally produces the box set along with documentarian Brian Miksis. The set includes rare photos, memorabilia and a 32 page book that contains track by track essays. This is a must have for any Jerry Garcia fan. Here is the complete tracklist. More news of  this gem will follow.
